History:
Byers was originally founded in 1866 as Bijou. Once the railroad was completed through Bijou the town was renamed to Byers in honor of William N. Byers. Mr. Byers was teh owner and editor of the Rocky Mountain News at the time. Byers is close to Denver while still allowing residents to enjoy all the positives of living in a rural comunity. Farming and ranching are the cornerstone of Byers' economy. In the '70's & '80's oil & gas exploration helped build the community and brought a more diversified economy.
